Blue ArrowLIBRARY FLOAT WINS 75th ANNIVERSARY PARADE FLOAT CONTEST - The Henry Waldinger Memorial Library's 75th Anniversary Birthday Cake Float, designed by Library Clerk Rosemarie Kielawa, won 1st Place in the Parade Float Contest.  The four-tiered cake was topped off by a "Wizard of Oz" decoration, plus a "Cat In the Hat" decoration, books, etc.  The library staff also marched in the parade--many of the staff were dressed as storybook characters, including The Cat in the Hat, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow from "The Wizard of Oz," Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Robin Hood, etc.

Blue Arrow"THE PRIDE OF VALLEY STREAM ART : CELEBRATING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INC. VILLAGE OF VALLEY STREAM" - With partial funding from a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program, administered by the Long Island Arts Council in Freeport, the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library held a special art exhibition during October 2000. Participating Artists were : Ira N. Brophy, James Cicconetti, Yolanda Conza, Holly Ann Eberhardt, Rob Hendel, Jason Jacks, Howard Kriedter, Joan Bridget Manney, Angela Schultz, Mike Stanko, Nick Striga, and Muriel Wasserman.

Blue ArrowLIBRARY CELEBRATES THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF VALLEY STREAM - The library will be compiling a registry of people, businesses, organizations, and institutions in Valley Stream to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Valley Stream.  All members of the community are encouraged to submit an entry which will become a permanent record of the Village of Valley Stream in its 75th year.  Contact Assistant Director Mamie Eng for further information.  Registry pages will be accepted throughout the year up to December 30, 2000.  The registry will be housed at the library for future generations of Valley Streamers to read enjoy.  An additional copy will be available at the Valley Stream Museum.

Blue ArrowNEW CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN HAS JOINED THE STAFF - Linda Eagan joined the staff of the library as the new Children's Librarian on Monday, October 16, 2000.  She previously worked as Children's Librarian at the Hillside Public Library.

Blue ArrowNETLIBRARY ACCOUNTS AVAILABLE AT THE LIBRARY - Henry Waldinger Memorial Library patrons can sign-up for an patron account to access netLibrary, a collection of online books available through the Internet.  You must present your Valley Stream library card and complete a brief application form at the Reference Desk.  The librarian will create an account for you so that you will have access to the Nassau Library System eBook Collection, in addition to the public domain eBooks, in netLibrary.
