Blue ArrowANNUAL CHILDREN'S HALLOWEEN CELEBRATIONS - For the first time, the library held a Halloween Program for Babies and Toddlers on Halloween morning. Over 25 little ones came to hear some Halloween stories and to show off their costumes. Almost forty children participated in the library's annual children's Halloween Parade on Tuesday, October 31, 2006. After hearing a Halloween story read by Children's Librarian Ms. Dlugolonski, the children showed off their costumes to library patrons and staff as they paraded throughout the library before getting a bag of goodies.

Blue ArrowThe Henry Waldinger Memorial Library held its 1st Annual Teen Talent Show on Wednesday, August 23, 2006. Four teens entertained over 35 children and parents with their talents, and Andrea Colletti from Fun4UFaces did facepainting for most of the children.

Blue ArrowThe Henry Waldinger Memorial Library sponsors a Young Adult Mother/Daughter Book Discussion Group that meets on a regular basis to give mothers and daughters an opportunity to read common books, to meet with others, and to discuss these books. Some of the titles that have been discussed over the past years include: Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott; The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Ann Brashares; Split Image, by Mel Glenn; and The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things, by Carolyn Mackler. On August 10, 2006, members of the Young Adult Mother/Daughter Book Discussion Group had the unique opportunity to meet and chat with Young Adult Author Carolyn Mackler at Alice's Tea Cup in Manhattan. Any girl in Grade 6 and up and her mother may join the group by contacting Assistant Director Ms. Eng.

Blue ArrowDuring Spring 2006, the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library held, ENCORE ... MUSIC & STORIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD, a series of musical programs this spring which were partially funded by a Nassau Grant for the Arts administered by the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport. The first program featured Latin Jazz performed by the Napoleon Revels-Bey Ensemble on Thursday, March 9, 2006. The second program was Afrikan Storytelling and Music, performed by the World Harvest Storytellers, on Thursday, April 27, 2006. The final program was International Storytelling by Elizabeth Rowe, on Thursday, June 1, 2006, at 7:00 p.m.

Blue ArrowTEDDY BEAR TEA -The Children's Room held its first Teddy Bear Tea on Saturday, May 13, 2006, for children, ages 3-8, and their teddy bears. This program proved to be very popular and will be offered periodically.

Blue Arrow8TH CHILDREN'S CHALK ART SHOW -The library held its 8th Children's Chalk Art Show on Saturday, April 29, 2006, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Over 25 children drew chalk pictures on the walkway between the library and the Village Hall. All the children received certificates of achievement, ribbons, and door prizes. Village Trustees Joanne Antun and Edwin Fare were present to congratulate all the children.

Blue Arrow8TH ANNUAL TEEN POETRY CONTEST -The library held its 8th Annual Teen Poetry Contest to celebrate National Poetry Month. Contestants were in Grades 6-12. Poem entries were original works by the contestants. Theme for this year's poetry contest was "Books : A Treasure." The Awards Ceremony was held on Friday, April 21, 2006. The winners are:

3rd Place John Desepoli, Holy Name of Mary School, Grade 6

Blue Arrow9TH ANNUAL CHILDREN'S LEGO EXHIBIT -The library held its 9th Annual Children's Lego Exhibit in January 2006. Children of all ages exhibited their Lego creations for all to see. All the children received a Certificate of Achievement for their participation.

Blue ArrowLIBRARY OPEN HOUSE -The Board of Trustees and the Staff of the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library held an Open House on Saturday, January 21, 2006, from 1:00-3:00 p.m., to celebrate the completion of the interior library renovation done in 2005. Magician Terry Parrett entertained children with magic shows and balloon animals, and Children's Librarian Suzanne Dlugolonski held special storytimes.

Blue ArrowNEW LIBRARIAN TRAINEE HAS JOINED THE STAFF - Faith Sundquist has joined the staff of the library as the new Librarian Trainee in the Adult Refernce Department. She is currently enrolled in the Masters of Library Science program at the Palmer School at C.W. Post, L.I.U.
