College Testing & Selection Sites
- CampusTours is the source for college campus tours on the World Wide Web. It includes a step-by-step College Finder to help you find the colleges that are right for you and an online application system.
- The College Board is the organization responsible for standardized testing, including the SAT, the Scholastic Aptitude Test. The College Board's website includes information on its standardized testing, colleges and careers, and scholarship information and opportunities.
- The Internet Guide for Parents includes advice and tips for parents of collegebound high school students and their kids with links to internet resources. It is organized by Jan A. Maas, a public librarian, to help answer questions about colleges, financial aid, and the entire college admission process.
- LIRACHE (The Long Island Regional Advisory Council on Higher Education) is a consortium of the 20 colleges and universities on Long Island. Site has links to all its members' websites.
- Peterson's is one of the most comprehensive education resources on the web. It includes information on colleges, career information, and test preparation.
- The Princeton Review includes information colleges, business schools, law schools, medical schools, graduate schools, career choices, distance learning, internships, etc., in addition to information on SATs, etc.
- U.S. Dept. of Education gives students and employers access to a master list of accredited colleges, universities, and career and trade schools.
- U.S. News & World Reports College Rankings help students identify colleges & universities that are right for them. Colleges are ranked in different categories based on 16 measures of academic excellence.

Finding Financial Aid for College
- FAFSA on the Web is the fastest way to apply on-line for student financial aid! Students who applied for aid last year may also be able to complete a Renewal FAFSA application on-line. Renewal FAFSA filers will need to obtain a PIN first.
- FinAid is a full service site to help a student obtain college funding by loan, scholarship, or savings. The site offers more help than any other site, depending heavily upon links. It features an array of 18 calculators, includes tips to optimizing your situation, and describes different loans that may available.
- Sallie Mae helps students achieve their dreams of higher education by providing funds for educational loans, primarily federally guaranteed student loans originated under the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). It is the nation's leading provider of education loans.
- ScholarStuff.com includes links to colleges and universities around the world with undergraduate programs and links to business, engineering, and medical schools throughout the U.S. The site includes a Chat Network for students and a Netguide with links to some of the best and most useful websites on the Internet.
- SRN Express (Scholarship Resource Network Express) is a search engine and database of private scholarships designed to assist students identify sources for undergraduate through postgraduate study.
- Think College ... Learn for a Lifetime! is a special site established by the U.S. Dept. of Education to help students with the process of preparing for college and applying for assistance. Includes a step-by-step primer on obtaining federal aid for college.
- College Answer's Scholarship Search is a scholarship database from Sallie Mae with more than 600,000 listings and a newly added college admissions advice section. It was named "Forbes Favorite" for college planning.

New York State Learning Standards |
New
York State Learning Standards have been revised to help children
develop their problem-solving abilities so that they can become more independent
thinkers. Minimum standards have been raised for all students so they
will be better equipped to use compete successfully in today's increasingly
complex, demanding world.
There
are two types of learning standards --
CONTENT
STANDARDS: What children should know, understand, and be able to do
as a result of their schooling, and
PERFORMANCE
STANDARDS: Acceptable levels of student achievement. |

York State Curriculum Resource Guides are outlines for the general
curriculum areas outlined by the New York State Learning Standards. The
curriculum guides are designed to provide assistance to educators in the
development of local instructional materials to meet student learning
needs.
The
seven general curriculum areas are -- English Language Arts; Mathematics,
Science and Technology; Social Studies; Languages other than English; The
Arts; Health, Physical Education and Family and Consumer Sciences; and
