The Henry Waldinger Memorial Library subscribes to several online resources that can help with general research or homework assignments. In some cases, you will be asked to enter your library card barcode number which is located on the reverse side of your library card. In other cases, you will be asked to enter a password, which may be obtained at the Adult Reference Desk upon presentation of your library card.

Alt-HealthWatch is a database of nearly 50,000 articles from over 180 international, peer-reviewed and professional journals, magazines, reports, proceedings and association and consumer newsletters focusing on complementary, holistic, and integrated approaches to health care and wellness.
NOTE: You will be asked to enter your library card barcode number to access the database.
Community Resource Database of Long Island is a database of nearly 12,000 health, education, social and human services agencies and programs on Long Island. It is open and accessible through the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Gale Virtual Reference Library: Datebase features a wide variety of eBook reference titles from Thomson Gale, including:

Infotrac's Health and Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module is a database of articles on health topics such as fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases, public health, HMOs, prescription drugs, and herbal remedies, and alternative or complementary treatments, etc. Included are links to diet, cancer, and health assessment sites as well as government databases. It is being offered to patrons through NOVEL, the New York State Statewide Database Project.

MedlinePlus is the National Library of Medicine's consumer health database of current, authoritative health information. It will direct you to information to help answer health questions. MedlinePlus brings together, by health topic, authoritative information from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), other government, non-profit and other health-related organizations. Preformulated MEDLINE searches are included in MedlinePlus and give easy access to the medical research literature. It also provides you with a database of full-text drug information and an illustrated medical encyclopedia.  
PubMed is the National Library of Medicine's search service that provides access to over 11 million citations in MEDLINE, PreMEDLINE, and other related databases, with links to participating online journals. 
ReferenceUSA -- Healthcare database covers over 830,000 physicians, surgeons, and dentists, compiled from state licensing information, medical directories, industry & speciality directories, etc. Searches can made by type of practice, medical school attended, etc.

Salem Health is the new online version of Magill's Medical Guide , 4th edition. The Guide covers diseases, disorders, treatments, procedures, specialties, anatomy, biology, and issues in an A-Z format, with sidebars addressing recent developments in medicine and concise information boxes for all diseases and disorders. Click on the "Remote Access Login" tab. Enter the library's access password - vslhealth. If you wish to save articles, you can set up your personal profile with your e-mail address and your own password.
Salud Para Todos provides full text Spanish-language information for a wide variety of medical and health-related topics. This product is designed to make useful health information more readily accessible for Spanish-speaking consumers and patients. It includes a wealth of valuable information gained from federal and state agencies, voluntary health associations, pharmaceutical companies, and other health-related organizations. The easy-to-use interface allows the researcher to quickly find the information via keyword search and/or category searching. This database is updated quarterly.

WebMD provides healthcare information for consumers, physicians, and healthcare institutions. The consumer site allows you to find a physician in your area and check his background and experience.

American Hospital Directory provides on-line, comparative data for most hospitals.  You can check hospital characteristics, services provided, outpatient statistics, financial reports, inpatient utilization, and costs & charges. 
American Medical Association Physician Select  provides basic professional information on virtually every licensed physician in the United States and its possessions, including more than 690,000 doctors of medicine and doctors of osteopathy or osteopathic medicine.
ClinicalTrials.gov provides information about the location of clinical trials, their design and purpose, criteria for participation, and information about the disease and treatment under study. It contains over 4,000 clinical studies on various medical conditions such Alzheimer's disease, cancer, and diabetes.
Hospital Compare from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services provides you with information on how well the hospitals in your area care for all their adult patients with certain medical conditions. This information will help you compare the quality of care hospitals provide. Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and organizations that represent hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations, other Federal agencies and the public.
Medterms.com includes thousands of concise, readable definitions of medical terms, all written by doctors.
Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy (17th ed.) is used by more medical professionals worldwide than any other general medical textbook. 
MyPyramid.gov is the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture's website on the nutrition pyramid, dietary guidelines for Americans, and healthy eating.
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, an arm of the National Institutes of Health, conducts and supports research on alternative therapies and posts findings on its site.  
New York State Hospital Profile website highlights important information on hospitals for consumers, including each hospital's available services and licensed beds, quality of care measures, volume and types of procedures performed, and contact information.
New York State Professional Misconduct and Physician Discipline site provides a listing of all physicans, physician assistants and specialist assistants who have been disciplined since 1990 in New York State.
New York State Physician Profile provides profiles for all licensed doctors of medicine and doctors of osteopathy who are registered to practice medicine in New York State.
RxList : The Internet Drug Index provides fast, reliable information to both  the consumer and the medical professional.
