The Henry Waldinger Memorial Library sponsors a Young Adult Mother/Daughter Book Discussion Group that meets on a regular basis to give mothers and daughters an opportunity to read common books, to meet with other mothers and daughters, and to discuss these books. Some of the titles that have been discussed over the past years include: Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott; The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, by Ann Brashares; Split Image, by Mel Glenn; The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things, by Carolyn Mackler; The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd; and Secrets of My Hollywood Life, by Jen Calonita. The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things On August 10, 2006, members of the Young Adult Mother/Daughter Book Discussion Group had the unique opportunity to meet and chat with Young Adult Author Carolyn Mackler at Alice's Tea Cup in Manhattan. Ms. Mackler discussed how she does research for her books, background stories about her book, The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things, and her writing career. Any girl in Grade 6 and up and her mother may join the group by contacting Assistant Director Ms. Eng.
